Rating: ****
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Family
Episodes: 16
Cast: Kang Hye Jung, Lee Kyu Han, Lee Young Eun, Lee Min Woo
SYNOPSIS:
"A mother of four daughters and the president of a kimchi factory decides
to embark on a grand marriage scheme for her children... by having them
cohabitate with four eligible bachelors."
REVIEW:
After getting multiple people telling me how wonderful this show was, I decided to finally take a gander at this show. Funny, cute, and addicting, this was well worth the watch. When I first read the synopsis, I though that it was two people that were plotting a marriage scheme for their children, but I later realized that the president of the kimchi factory and the mother were the same person. That kind of made it a little less fun, as I would have liked to see two scheming parents, but it was still fun.

Bridal Mask
Rating: ***.5
Genre: Period, Action, Drama, Romance
Episodes: 28
Cast: Joo Won, Jin Se Yun, Park Ki Woong, Han Chae Ah
SYNOPSIS:
"Gaksital is a famous manhwa set in the 1930s, during the Japanese occupation. The hero, Lee Kang-to, is known as 'Gaksital' because he wears a mask to hide his face — one of those traditional play masks, specifically the rosy-cheeked one reserved for the female role, aka the bride. He's an unassuming young man in real life, but when he dons his superhero mask, he fights injustice and rights wrongs during one of the darkest periods of Korea's history… "
REVIEW:
When I first heard of this drama, I ran very quickly. To be honest, the period this drama is in scared me pretty bad. You see, the drama was in the 1930s, which was the time of the Japanese Occupation of Korea which lasted from 1910 to 1945. This means that the drama would most likely have a bad ending. Since the drama is supposed to be about ten years before the end of the occupation, that means that the Bridal Mask will not be able to really make much of a difference during the time that the drama shows.
Against my better judgement, I dove in and try it. It was really addicting in the beginning. The only problem is that I think they shouldn't have extended the drama to more episodes. The drama kind of got a little boring toward the end because they extended it too much. Bridal Mask is one of those dramas that you like, but probably wouldn't want to take the time to watch again. Tread carefully~!

A Gentleman's Dignity
Rating: *****
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Episodes: 20

SYNOPSIS:
"A drama about the careers and love lives of urban professionals. It will tell the story of four men in their forties as they go through love, breakup, success and failure. REVIEW:
This is not my normal drama to say the least. I usually go for dramas that have characters around my age, and that have funny plots. However, I somehow got sucked into watching this drama, and I was unable to get away from it from the very first episode. Funny, interesting and extremely addicting, this drama really got me by the nape of my neck.
I have no issues with this drama, and I wholeheartedly recommend this drama to anyone wanting a good laugh.

Ma Boy
Rating: *****
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Youth
Episodes: 3
Cast: Kim So Hyun, Sun Woong, Mih Hoo, Kim Ha Yun
SYNOPSIS:
"Jang Geu Rim (Kim So Hyun) is a student at an arts high school who dreams of becoming a pop singer. At school She gets a new roommate, Irene (Sun Woong) who’s actually a boy. Irene’s persona is a pretty Female CF star and his actual name is Hyun Woo. "
REVIEW:
I officially hate you guys. T.T
"Ma Boy is great! You didn't watch it??" People kept saying. So, I decided to watch it. I watched all three episodes straight, only to find out that it was only three episodes. Wei????? Why didn't you tell me this? Huh? Think it's funny? Drama? This isn't a drama, it's a movie that was cut into three parts!
In any case, it was fun to watch. Although completely ridiculous, I can't say I didn't enjoy it. I just wish it was longer.

I Love Lee Tae Ri
Rating: ****
Genre: Romance
Episodes: 16
Cast: Im Ho, Jang Young Nam, Kim Ki Bum, Park Ye Jin, Yang Jin Woo
SYNOPSIS:
"Min Soo is a 14-year-old boy who is engaged to a woman 7 years older than him. As he knows that the woman likes another man, he makes a wish so that he can protect his love. As the result of his wish, he becomes a 25-year-old man. Tae Ri is a well-educated woman who comes from a wealthy family. After being hurt by her first love, she doesn't believe in love anymore. But, as Min Soo suddenly appears before her, she starts to have feelings for him... "
REVIEW:
I know what you guys are going to say. "A 14 year old with a character that seems to be about 30?" I know, it really does seem awkward. Although I had a hard time wrapping my head around it, it really didn't put me off so much that I didn't enjoy it. In fact, the show made me completely addicted. Kim Ki Bum made me watch time and time again.

I Do, I Do
Rating: ****
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Episodes: 16
Cast: Kim Sun Ah, Park Gun Hyung, Im Soo Hyang, Lee Jang Woo
SYNOPSIS:
"Hwang Ji An is the top shoe designer in a major shoe company. She is in her 30s, successful and single. One night, she makes a horrible mistake and sleeps with Park Tae Gang, a good-looking new employee in her company, and she finds out she is pregnant. Ji An’s hard-earned career and her stylish lifestyle threatens to implode as a result of her one-night-stand mistake. Will Ji An be forced to give up everything and live with the consequences of her mistake?"
REVIEW:
Although it might just be my bias of Lee Jang Woo talking, which screams of how cute he acts, I really did enjoy this drama. Sure, there were some things that didn't quite work, but (in the end) I think it was a good drama. I think the worst thing about this drama, though, is the name. It is the most annoying title to have to put into a search engine. All you get are wedding stuff. I guess the title in Hangul is better in that you can find information on the drama, but in English it's a bit tough. I do have to wonder if it was in anyway inspired by the 1966 Broadway musical "I Do! I Do!" which was about a married couple. However, us viewers will probably never know.

Queen In Hyun's Man
Rating: ****.5
Genre: Romance
Episodes: 16
Cast: Ji Hyun Woo, Jo Dal Hwan, Yoo In Na, Kim Jin Woo (1983), Ga Deuk Hi
SYNOPSIS:
"Park Boong Do is a scholar who had supported the reinstatement of Queen In Hyun when Jang heebin's schemes resulted in her being deposed and replaced as King Sukjong's queen consort. He travels 300 years into the future of modern Seoul and meets Choi Hee Jin, a no-name actress who is expecting a career renaissance through her role as Queen In Hyun in a TV drama. "
REVIEW:
Although it isn't my normal drama, since I rarely enjoy straight romance dramas, I decided to give it a whirl after my friends raved about it. Although hesitant, I found that, in the end, I thoroughly enjoyed this drama. Although the idea of time travel is anything but new, this seems to give a new spin on that idea as the main character seems to be able to travel back and forth whenever he pleases. Although there are things that I didn't like, I would definitely recommend this drama.

Rooftop Prince
Rating: *****
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy , Romance
Episodes: 20
Cast: Han Ji Min, Jung Yoo Mi (1984), Lee Tae Sung, Micky Yoochun, Lee Min Ho (1993)
SYNOPSIS:
"A prince from the Joseon era, Lee Gak, is catapulted 300 years forward into the future in Seoul 2012 with his entourage, which includes Song Man Bo, Do Chi San and Woo Young Sul, when he tries to investigate the suspicious circumstances which surround the death of the girl he loved. In the present, he finds a girl who looks exactly like his beloved crown princess..."
REVIEW:
Funny, hilarious and... Did I say funny? I did? Well, sorry about that then. Although I did time 20 minutes of this drama on Viki, that's not why I am biased. I am biased because of who I call the "blue ranger." He's just so hilarious! Although he's always so serious, he is the one that makes me laugh the most. Micky just adds to my bias.
Although many have said that they did not enjoy the ending of this drama, I kind of already knew that this would be the ending anyway. Although I would have loved another ending, I did not feel like my time was wasted on this drama. It was funny, enjoyable, and I hope to watch it again sometime.

The Empress
Rating: ***
Genre: Drama
Episodes: 13
Cast: Choi Phillip, Kang Ji Sub, Jang Shin Young, Jun Se Hong, Kim Hyung Jong
SYNOPSIS:
"Seo In Hwa is a bar hostess whose main goal is to seek revenge on the rich, corrupt men who hurt her."
REVIEW:
So, I really only watched this because I was avoiding watching the long list of dramas that I've been putting on the back burner for about forever. The drama is short, so I figured that it wouldn't take too much of my time to watch it.
As far as the drama went, it was alright. Straight drama shows aren't really my cup of tea, so I can't really say it was something I would watch again. Maybe other people who like straight Drama genres would enjoy it, but it just wasn't for me. It wasn't horrible to watch, though, and they produced the story quite well.

The Moon That Conceals The Sun
Rating: ****
Genre: Fantasy, Period Drama , Romance
Episodes: 20
Cast: Han Ga In, Han Jin Hee, Jung Il woo, Kim Soo Hyun, Yeo Jin Goo
SYNOPSIS:
"Historical drama "The Moon Embracing The Sun" tells a love story between King Lee Hwon (Kim Soo-Hyun) and a female shaman named Wol (Han Ga-In). Wol was born from a noble family and became the crown princess, but she was entrapped and faced execution. Finally, she lived as a shaman. "
REVIEW:
What can I possibly say? I think my rating said it all.
MBC really did a great job with this drama. It is simple, addicting, and just short of amazing. There were a few little errors here and there, but I think they did a really wonderful job with this drama. The biggest thing was the child actors, though. Whoever cast these little actors really needs an award. I think they really did great in the casting. Not only did they have similar presences as the actors that played the older characters, but the kids did really wonderful on their acting. I definitely recommend this drama for anyone who likes Joeson period dramas.

Wild Romance
Rating: ****
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Episodes: 16
Cast: Lee Dong Wook, Oh Man Suk, Lee Si Young, Kang Dong Ho, Hwang Sun Hee
SYNOPSIS:
"Everything starts on the birthday of Eun Jae's dad. Eun Jae ran into Park Moo Yul, who is the 2nd baseman of 'Green Dreamers', when she is drunk. Eun Jae who is a fan of 'Blue Seagulls', starts a fight with Moo Yul who led the 'Green Dreamers' to victory. The next day, internet is on fire with the video called 'Humiliated Park Moo Yul'. Because of this video, career of both Moo Yul and Eun Jae, who recently got a job as a bodyguard, are in danger. In the end, they decided to put on a show against the public! They lie that Eun Jae is Moo Yul's private bodyguard and the video was recorded when Eun Jae was giving a self-defence demonstration to Moo Yul. Like this, Eun Jae becomes real bodyguard of Moo Yul. It seemed like everything worked out just fine, but the problem is that they can't stand each other's existence..."
REVIEW:
Comedy? Romance? Hmmm.... Not completely sure. I guess there is a romantic relationship, and some funny scenes, but it didn't make me laugh very much. Maybe it's the actors? I really don't know, but I wouldn't say it was funny enough to be called a "comedy." Ridiculous? Yes. However, not THAT funny.
I think they should add "mystery" to this drama or something. The whole thing is about finding who the creepy fan is that keeps sending him stuff. It's not a bad drama to watch, it's just that the only character I actually liked was the "Robot", played by Kang Dong Ho. That guy just makes me laugh every time. If it weren't for him, I might not have made it through the series.

Rating: ***
Genre: Music, Romance
Episodes: 14

SYNOPSIS:
"This drama is about the story that surrounding the idol stars. Kang Woo Hyun (Park Yoo Hwan) is a leader of the group M2 captivates fans with his killing smile. Ji Seung Yeon (Go Eun Ah) dreams of turning into a legend of the hip-hop. she has to dress up like a man to join a men’s idol group. Kang Chang Min (Kevin) thinks that the world turns around it, and dreams of being a soloist of ballads. Ri Ah (Kim Eun Jung) is a great celebrity that represents the whole nation."
REVIEW:
What can I possibly say about this drama? I'm kind of lost at this point. I started watching this even though it looked like a rip off of the popular Korean drama "You're Beautiful" which aired in 2009. I tried to think positively, telling myself that this could be good even though it wasn't a new idea. I liked watching it, even though all of the ideas were rehashed ones, but I still can't get my mind around the ending.
Where was the ending? Did I miss it? Where did it go? Did this show get cancelled, or did they give up on the drama completely? I'm so lost here. I might have to go back and watch the last episode, as it didn't look like the ending to me. I was expecting it to continue as there was no closing. It felt like a fragmented sentence was the end of a long essay. You read a long essay and expect there to be a closing note, but you only get an incomplete idea.
Can someone tell me the ending? Or, do I have to be high to get it?

Scent Of A Woman
Rating: *****
Genre: Romance
Episodes: 16
Cast: Kim Sun Ah, Lee Dong Wook, Seo Hyo Rim, Shin Ji Soo, Uhm Ki Joon
SYNOPSIS:
"A woman, Lee Yeon Jae, is given the grim prognosis that she only has a short time left to live. She decides to quit her job at a travel agency and live her life to the fullest."
REVIEW:
Beautiful.
As some of you may know, I've had a short novel in the back of my mind for a while now, and I've been trying to decide the basic outline for the story. That being said, I've been watching various shows that deal with cancer patients and what they go through so that I can get some more ideas on what works and what doesn't work in the stories that are similar in nature to my upcoming literature. However, after watching this, I'm starting to wonder if my story is worth writing. I swear that the writer of this story read my mind. Although the story is different, this is exactly the kind of situation I was going for. (I guess I need to think more about my story before I go through with it.)
Simple, beautiful, and entrancing, this drama really made me want to watch more. Although I don't usually watch pure romance dramas, I enjoyed this very much.

Warrior Baek Dong Soo
Rating: (Not Rated - See Below)
Genre: Period Drama
Episodes: 29
Cast: Choi Min Soo, Yoo Seung Ho, Yoon Ji Min, Yoon So Yi, Ji Chang Wook
SYNOPSIS:
"Set in the Joseon Dynasty during King Jeongjo’s reign, this martial-arts fusion sageuk is centered around the events involving Crown Prince Sado’s conspiracy. Warrior Baek Dong Soo was a real-life legend who created a martial arts guide in Joseon. His group who defends King Jeongjo is pitted against a mysterious organization of assassins who plot to kill the King."
REVIEW:
As some may know, I helped in the subtitling process for this show on Viki. As such, I have to wonder whether or not the influenced my view on the drama. That being said, I don't think I can properly review it. Although it's probably worth watching again, I've seen it too many times because I was working on it. XD
Although I went fangirl for this drama, since there are some smexy actors in this one, I cannot say that the production was spotless. Let's be honest here, the blood stains look like coolaid. Do they not know that blood stains turn brownish after a little while? (Sorry if I assumed wrong here, but I think the person who applied the fake blood was a man. Most women know what blood looks like.)
On a final note, I think there was an issue with Episode 13. Notice the sword is bloody before going into the person's body (even though it hadn't slashed anyone prior to its use), but it is clean when it's coming out of the body. Isn't that a bit backwards? If I'm wrong, please correct me, but it looks like the person who did the blood should have been fired.

The Duo
Rating: (Not Rated - See below)
Genre: Period Drama
Episodes: 32
Cast: Chun Jung Myung, Han Ji Hye, Kang Ji Sub, Lee Moon Shik, Lee Sang Yoon
SYNOPSIS:
"The drama tells the story of two men who were switched at birth. Chun Dong, born of noble birth, lives his life as a slave while Gwi Dong lives Chun Dong's life as a nobleman. They both fall in love with the same girl, Dong Nyeo."
REVIEW:
Although I liked watching it, I don't think I would watch it again. Truthfully, it wasn't as great as I thought it was going to be. The acting and film production is top notch, but that doesn't stop the script from being sub par. I know that many viewers will probably throw rotten tomatoes at me, but this is just my opinion.
Although it is a good character study, it doesn't have the makings of an addicting story. When you are watching a good drama or reading a story, you always have a person to root for. The audience of the story end up becoming one with the main character(s). They laugh, cry, and root for the protagonist. However, this story just makes the viewer lost. What is the main plot? Yes, they were switched right after birth, but that's not the main point to the story. Without a main idea, it is not a story. I mean, if this was a historical drama it wouldn't be so bad since they would be following the history of a certain person, but this is fiction. You can't have a good fiction without having a goal being reached in the end.
P.S. Anyone else think that the ending was kind of unrealistic?

Jewel In The Palace
Rating: *****
Genre: Period Drama
Episodes: 54
Cast: Hong Ri Na, Im Ho, Ji Jin Hee, Lee Youn Ae, Yang Mi Kyung
SYNOPSIS:
"About 500 years ago during the time of Chosun Dynasty, Korea boasted a rigidly hierarchical and male dominated social structure. Set in this period, "Jewel in the Palace" is based on a true story about a legendary girl (Jang-Geum) who became the first woman to be the supreme royal physician of her times. Despite her poor condition as a low class girl in the male dominated society, Jang-Geum overcame a series of social discrimination and landed herself as a royal cook, later becoming the royal physician, then ultimately the physician in charge of the king. She was even given by the king the title "The Great Jang-Geum". The story of her checkered life on her success and breakdown as well as her love story beautifully unfold. "Jewel in the Palace" is sure to touch your heart."
REVIEW:
Jewel In The Palace, also named Dae Jang Geum, is a very popular drama series. Truthfully, I wasn't really that interested in it. However, since there were many viewers that recommended it, I decided to give it a chance. Much of the cast I've seen in other dramas, and they did wonderful. I very much enjoyed it, even though there were some scenes I just closed my eyes. I can watch someone cutting up a fake body, or even effects that make it look like a head has been chopped off, but I can't stand to watch someone putting needles into someone else's body.
This drama will make you hungry by showing you people making food and then will make you want to puke by hearing about what they used to put in people's medicine. That being said, your weight will eventually balance out by the end of this drama.
The only error I saw that was a big issue was the person who made the food for the drama. Couldn't they have picked a thinner person to represent Jang Geum's hands? It's like she suddenly gains 50+ pounds whenever she is making food. I know I say that I gain weight just watching them cook, but that is just ridiculous.
P.S. Don't expect this to be in any way historical. Although it's supposed to be about the first female physician, it doesn't seem to have any reference to actual historical documents.

Ballad of Suh Dong
Rating: ****
Genre: Drama, Period Drama, Historical
Episodes: 55
Cast: Han In Soo, Jo Hyun Jae, Koo Hye Sun, Lee Bo Young, Ryu Jin
SYNOPSIS:
""Sodongyo" is said to be one of Korea's oldest folk songs. According to Samgukyusa (The Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) from the Silla Kingdom, the song was written by Sodong, a commoner from the Paekche Kingdom. Hearing that Princess Sonhwa, a daughter of King Chinpyong of the Silla Kingdom was beautiful, he writes a song saying that the princess visits Sodong's room every night and spreads the song around. When her father hears the song, he condemns the princess to exile. Sodong picks her up and takes her to Paekche, and they become the royal couple of the country."
REVIEW:
Just hearing the synopsis of this drama really made me want to watch it. The thought of a guy spreading around that song made me laugh pretty hard. However, a viewer should remember that the actual story isn't always as wonderful as the synopsis. The synopsis kind of makes it seem more silly than the actual story, but you mustn't be disappointed. Although 55 episodes is a bit of a hard watch, it's definitely worthwhile.
Again, this review has been on the back burner for about a month so I kind of forgot about it for a while. That being said, I kind of forgot some of the details by now. However, this post will be updated if I can remember what I was going to say about it. >.<

Legend
Rating: ****
Genre: Period Drama
Episodes: 24
Cast: Bae Yong Jun, Choi Min Soo, Lee Ji Ah, Moon So Ri, Oh Kwang Rok
SYNOPSIS:
"This drama portrays the life of the 19th king of Goguryeo, Hwanwoong, who was sent from the heavens to make the world a better place. He falls in love with Saeoh and gives her the joojak necklace; however, Kajin becomes jealous since Saeoh has given birth to Hwanwoong's son. She takes the baby and throws him off a cliff. Saeoh, thinking that her son had died, is overcome with grief and turns into the black joojak to destroy the world. Hwanwoong is the only one who could stop her. Afterwords, Hwanwoong returns to the Heavens and prophecizes that, 2,000 years later, the true Joo Shin king will come to Earth. With the help of the four gods, he will rebuild Joo Shin."
REVIEW:
I enjoyed this drama very much. Although there were some errors in the special effects department, the show made me an addict for a few days.
Unfortunately, though, I kind of put off writing this review for a month. So, basically, I can't remember what I was going to write about. My laziness is really getting out of control. In any case, I hope you enjoy this series. If I remember something else about this series, I'll update this post later on.

Kim So Roo
Rating: ***.5
Genre: Historical
Episodes: 32
Cast: Ji Sung, Seo Ji Hye, Bae Jong Ok, Yoo Oh Sung, Go Joo Won
SYNOPSIS:
"This drama charts the life of Kim Soo Ro, the legendary founder of the city-state of Geumgwan Gaya during the Three Kingdoms Period. He unified 12 small countries to create the state of Geumgwan Gaya in southeastern Korea during the Three Kingdoms Period in Korea."
REVIEW:
Although I enjoyed the series, I have to say that they should have been more realistic. I mean, seriously? Just watch the first episode and I think you'd know what I mean. Just because it's mostly legend doesn't mean you should exaggerate the effects like that. Also, I found the martial arts sequences to be kind of bad. The swordsmanship looks more like a sword dance than fighting. All the characters leave so many openings. If this was a real fight, none of them would live after fighting like that.
I don't really have much to say other than that. It was nice, but it could use a touch of reality.

The Kingdom Of The Winds
Rating: ****
Genre: Fantasy, Period Drama
Episodes: 36
Cast: Choi Jung Won, Kim Hye Sung, Jung Jin Young, Park Gun Hyung, Song Il Gook
SYNOPSIS:
"The drama about the life of Jumong's grandson, Moo Hyul, who later became Daemusin. it features Song Il-Guk as King Daemushin of the Goguryeo Kingdom (37 B.C.-A.D. 668). Moo Hyul was born with a curse to kill his parent, siblings, son and destroy Goguryeo."
REVIEW:
Song Il Gook has once again made me addicted. After playing Jumong in 2006, he came back to play Jumong's grandson Moo Hyul. I love the fact that he plays Moo Hyul after playing Jumong because it makes it very easy to watch the Kingdom of the Winds right after watching Jumong.
Although addicting, I cannot say that there were no errors. In fact, this had a lot more errors than the 81 episodes of Jumong. I would list them, but I was too lazy to do so when I was watching. I think that I'll let it go for now.
P.S. Did anyone else think that Kim Hye Sung (as Prince Yeo Jin) looked really feminine? When I first saw him in the drama, I couldn't tell if he was a girl or a guy.
